My Blogging Journey: From Secret Blog to Full-Time Freedom
Quick backstory: Everything started with a secret blog back in 2021. Since then, I’ve grown it into a cozy community and online business that allowed me to quit my 9–5, make money from bed, write for a living, and live the introvert’s dream. Now, I want to help you do the same!
Is Blogging Still Worth It in 2025?
You might be thinking:
“Is blogging still worth it? Can I still make money blogging? Am I too late?”
The answer is no, you’re not too late — and yes, blogging is still very much alive. It’s just evolved!
Blogging Is Not Dead — It Has Evolved
Ever since I started my blog, people have been asking if blogging is dead.
Even with AI coming onto the scene, blogging isn’t going anywhere.
In fact, you can even use AI to grow your blog faster — and I’ll share tips on how to do that later.
What You Need to Start a Blog in 2025
Let’s dive into the practical steps. If you want detailed, step-by-step guidance, I have both a free and a paid course available (linked in the description). But here’s the essential starting point:
1. Get a Self-Hosted Website
You absolutely need a self-hosted website. What does that mean? It means you own your blog — your content, your website. Therefore, If you’re serious about building a blogging business, this is non-negotiable.
I recommend starting with WordPress (what I use and trust). While there are other options like Kajabi, Squarespace, or Wix, WordPress with self-hosting gives you full ownership and flexibility.
Setting Up Your Blog with Bluehost and WordPress
recommend Bluehost and Hostinger for web hosting — it’s what I used when starting out, and it integrates seamlessly with WordPress.
When you sign up for Bluehost or Hostinger, you’re also setting up WordPress—it’s a two-in-one setup. You’ll also need a domain name, which you can easily purchase during the Bluehost signup process.
Must-Have WordPress Plugins
Here are the key plugins you should install:
- Wordfence Security: Protects your blog from attacks.
- Akismet: Filters spam comments.
- UpdraftPlus: Backs up your blog automatically.
- EWWW Image Optimizer: Speeds up image load times.
- Pretty Links: Makes ugly affiliate links look clean and professional.
2. Starting an Email List
Sign up for services like ConvertKit (formerly Kit) or Flodesk to start growing your email list right away.
Why an Email List is Essential
That’s why having an email list is so important — because you need to have that audience somewhere.
If you’re not into social media, get yourself an email list.
That way, you have direct contact with your audience, so that when the day comes to launch your digital product or promote that affiliate program, you have people you can sell to.
3. Choosing Your Blogging Niche
Don’t overthink it! Start broad and allow your niche to evolve naturally as you create more content and get to know your audience.
4. Use AI Wisely
Use ChatGPT for idea generation, outlining, and SEO tips—not for full blog writing. Keep your writing human and personal.
5. Build Relationships with Your Audience
Focus on community-building and sharing your personal point of view in your content.
6. Start Experimenting with Affiliate Marketing
Also, start experimenting with affiliate marketing. Sign up for Amazon Associates or other affiliate programs that make sense for your audience.
7. Experiment with Digital Products
Experiment with digital products like courses, maybe set up a shop, merch, coaching — whatever speaks to you and your target audience.
Blogging Strategies for 2025
1. Use Pinterest to Drive Traffic
Pinterest is a search engine, not a social media platform. It’s fantastic for driving blog traffic.
2. Write for Short Attention Spans
Use lots of white space, headings, bullet points, and tables of contents. Keep your articles skimmable and easy to read.
3. Incorporate Video Content
Embed YouTube videos, Instagram Reels, or TikToks into your blog posts to boost SEO and engagement.
4. Forget Expensive SEO Tools
Don’t focus on expensive keyword research. Write authentic, personal, story-based content. Google now favors real human content over keyword-stuffed AI writing.
How to Make Money Blogging in 2025
Be realistic: blogging is a long-term game. Quick riches are rare. Focus on growing slowly and steadily by serving your audience well.
Now, that you have an audience, an email list, and have made some money through ads and affiliate marketing — you can start creating digital products.
Of course, you can start before year one is up, but this is a realistic plan for how to monetize because you obviously need an audience to sell to.
No people, no profits!
Give yourself a year to build your audience. That way, you can get to know them, really understand what they want, and what they would be interested in purchasing from you.
Is Blogging Still Relevant in 2025?
So there you have it — yes, blogging is still very much a thing, and very much possible in 2025, even after all these years. You just have to start now. Start putting yourself out there, blog consistently, be persistent, and don’t give up!
Write every single day — just a few sentences — to help you create better blogs, find your style, your voice, and build your audience. Because that is your number one job right now: to build your cozy community.
Success Comes to Those Who Don’t Quit
Success comes to those who don’t quit — so definitely don’t be one of those people who quit.
Okay? You can do this!
